Narcissus in Chains Audiobook
May 30, 2010
With the highly acclaimed Obsidian Butterfly, Laurell K. Hamilton’s vampire hunter, Anita Blake, came into her own. She survived a supernatural onslaught unlike any she had ever faced prior to – and she did it without the two men in her life. Now, six months have passed since Anita has seen either Jean-Claude or Richard. Six months of celibacy. Six months of indecision. Six months of danger. For her body carries the marks of both vampire and werewolf, and until the triumvirate is consummated, all three remain vulnerable.
But when a kidnapper targets innocents that Anita has sworn to protect, she needs all the help she can get. In an earth-shattering union, Anita, Jean-Claude, and Richard merge the marks – and melt into one another. Suddenly, Anita can harness both their powers. She can feel their hearts…hear their thoughts… know their hungers… Nothing can save Anita from the twist of fate that draws her ever closer towards the brink of humanity – to finally surrender to the bloodlust, the beast, and also the desire transforming her body and consuming her soul…

The last man on earth….
January 3, 2008
…. is not alone.
In I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world, and those unfortunate enough to survive are transformed into blood-thirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville’s blood. By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?
The talents of Robertson Dean shine as he becomes Neville, and the listener can only follow his lead ever deeper into this calamity world. Dean has a unequaled voice and manages to make the storytelling a personal experience.
This is one of those audiobooks that you have to enjoy in one session, so be sure to set aside the time.

| I have never found myself so emotionally invested in less than six hours of listening. This book grabs deep and you’ll find yourself in tears as Robert Nevills last stand plays out. | |

Jim Dale’s work is magical
December 17, 2007
There’s only one word that can describe Jim Dale’s work on latest HARRY POTTER audiobook –”magical.” There are not so many audiobook narrators who can stretch the medium like Dale. He interprets more than 200 characters. He gives to all the different characters like wizards, cenrtaures, elves, and muggles their singular voices that are instantly recognizable.
It’s hard to imagine anyone else doing justice to the brilliant finale to the story of the boy wizard as he defeats fear and turns into a man. Dale has raised the bar on audiobook interpretation so high it’s hard to imagine any narrator jumping over it.
If your are looking for a proof that listening to an audiobook is superior to reading it, this book would be the best evidence.
However, you should watch this and of course listen to him.

Just another school song…
December 13, 2007
Addendum to yesterday’s post if you don’t know the lyrics to
Jim Dale’s singing performance.
Hogwarts School Song
Hogwarts, Hogwarts, hoggy warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they’re bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff,
So teach us things worth knowing,
Bring back what we’ve forgot,
Just do your best, we’ll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot.
And here comes Part 3 of “Jim Dale reads Harry Potter”
